Rob Howard is a professor of Communication, Religious Studies, and Folklore in the Department of Communication Arts at the University of Wisconsin – Madison. He is also the director of the Undergraduate Digital Studies Certificate. In this interview, Rob talks about all things digital, from his first steps in studying posts on early internet news sites to the big data he gathers today trying to uncover what people are thinking about current issues such as gun violence. What he loves about his work is the ability to use big data tools alongside traditional analytic methodologies to represent more fairly what people are doing and feeling.
